Supplementary Health Insurance
Complementary Health Insurance enables individuals under SGK (Turkey’s state health coverage) to receive care at private hospitals without paying extra “gap” fees. By covering charges that the state healthcare doesn’t, this budget-friendly policy lets you access contracted private hospitals for treatment with virtually no out-of-pocket costs.

Complementary Health Insurance (TSS) is a cost-effective type of health coverage that pays for the portion of medical bills not covered by the national health insurance (SGK) when you visit private hospitals. In Turkey, SGK covers part of the expenses in SGK-contracted private hospitals, but patients are typically charged a “difference fee” for the remaining amount. A TSS policy absorbs these extra costs on your behalf, meaning you can get examinations, treatments, and even surgeries at contracted private hospitals by paying only the small standard co-pay (e.g., 50 TL) or nothing at all beyond what SGK covers. This insurance usually fully covers inpatient treatments and can optionally include outpatient care (doctor visits, tests, imaging, etc.) depending on the plan you choose. Complementary Health Insurance is an ideal solution for SGK members who want to benefit from the comfort and quality of private healthcare but cannot afford the high premiums of a full private health insurance. Despite its lower cost, it offers broad coverage and often provides additional perks – many plans include one free annual check-up, dental cleaning, or other wellness services like dietician or psychologist consultations. By having TSS, you protect yourself from hefty medical bills at private facilities and ensure that you and your family can access a higher standard of healthcare without straining your budget. Moreover, premiums paid for health insurance can usually be deducted from your taxable income, providing an extra financial advantage.
